i posted this question under emus but have had no takers so i was hoping someone could find here quicker. I had a baby emu hatch early monday morning..he still cant walk, its like he's doing a split...i have him on textured carpet.so he can get footing....he's 5 days old today..and still nothing..he is awful fat , but its like he doesnt even try to spread his toes, or try to put pressure on his feet...he's very alert, seems healthy..already eats..responds to my voice well, as i talked to him in the egg while i was awaiting his birth..and he tries to run to me but wipes out immediately..is this normal, will it cure itself??vitamin defficeny??? genetics?? or is he just still to young.. i know it can take him up to 10 days to absorb his yolk???yhanks in advance!dana

thank you soooooooooooo much...... i have seen this in chicks but never emus.... you were 100 % correct..... the bandaids weren't nearly long enuff but i made a gauze/med tape bandaid to fit and secured his legs... and he is now holding his own... he cant walk but is standing.... he tobbles over quite often, but we are monitoring him closely and he already is making a comeback...you are a blessing and have saved a baby... all thanks to you.... i am adding you to my buddies list and will be posting a pick of keith, baby emu......god bless you!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so glad Keith is doing better!! It's been almost a year since I started keeping chickens so I consider myself a nub still... But, my husband calls me the crazy chicken lady because When I start talking to someone about chickens, his head about spins with how much I have learned..
