Last year about this time, we embarked on our first baby chicks...

A lot has happended in our chicken world in the last year...some losses, some gains...loads of yummy eggs!

Anyhow, one of our silkies (you can read about last year's adventures on my link in the signature) turned out to be a roo and the other a hen...soooo they do the dance all the time...we collect eggs daily.

We were on vacation for the weekend approx 3 weeks ago...our silkie got broody and decided to sit on 3 eggs...while we were trying to figure out what to do with the eggs (toss'm, let her sit on them, etc) we let it go too long, we candled them and it appeared they were approx 10 days...so we let her finish out her momma quest...

And today while we were gone, one hatched and appears to be doing great!!!

Still waiting to see if the other two hatch...

Honestly didn't want anymore silkies...and I'm supposed to give them away to my son's school master...but if there is just the one...hmmmm might convince him to let it stay with the momma...but if it's a roo...I'll poop! Can't have two roos....I just don't think I could...I really should let my son's school master have it, JUST IN CASE...LOL

Congraqts on the new baby.

A silkie was the first chicken hatched from my incubator- after a heap of ducklings... Its so cute..I am trying hard to not order a dozen silkie eggs to incubate.

Hope is turns out female for you so you can keep it.. Twice as many eggs for the next 12 months.......

The little peep is doing great, yet I haven't seen it eating yet...it's pecking at the shavings and I'm wondering if I should remove the shavings and show it where the food is? How many days before they need to start eating on their own (I forgot?)

I will take the food that is in there and grind it in a coffee grinder so it's more dust like, but I'm totally forgetting all the 'raising baby chicks' info...LOL My new mommie brain has gone to mush! LOL
