Hello! This is my first time posting here. I recently got 8 baby turkeys (4 whites 4 bronze) and they seem to be cold. I moved the heat lamp closer and they keep huddled up close to each other. Is this just how turkeys act? I’ve got the heat lamp now 1 foot above them and am afraid to burn them. Any help appreciated! Thanks.

Day old poults should be started at 90°F measured at the bedding level. They should have a large enough area that they can move freely between a heated area and an unheated area.

I prefer to use a thermometer to measure the temperature rather than guessing whether or not the temperature is correct. The temperature must be measured at the bedding level. Measuring the air temperature can cause the bedding level to become too hot.

Depending on your ambient temperature, you may need a higher output heat lamp if your poults are acting cold.

Thanks for the quick reply! I have them in a old cow trough so they have plenty of space to get away from the heat (about 2 feet wide and 4 feet long) I will let the thermometer set for a few minutes then let you know what it is afterwards!

The temperature is at 87f. I lowered it just 1 inch hopefully I can get it to 90. Thank you for your help!
