I have a five week old Pekin and a four week old brown duck, when I vent sexed them they were both female (I think) and I really wanted a male for both of them when they're older. Are they too big to have a baby duckling in the brooder?? They would be moving outside as soon as they were all old enough. Thanks!

Are you sure you want a drake? I mean, they are handsome, but my runners were - and are - quite happy without one. We have a sub flock now of a drake and his two girls, because he causes such drama in the duck yard.

I did want one... Mostly for eggs to hatch. My grandma wants duck eggs to hatch herself for the farm and she refuses to order any from online, so I figured, I have ducks, I'll get the eggs! But maybe I won't..

Not telling you not to, but drakes are more of a management challenge, in my limited experience, and based on what I have read here.

Another thought, since so many people need to rehome drakes, is wait till your girls are a little older, and then look for Mr. Right on the rehoming forum. Or, if you can keep him separate, find him now and make him wait to spend time with the girls till they are fully grown.
