I'm babysitting these chicks for a few days, my friend was told by the feedstore they were both black copper marans.

Obviously one is not black, she has beautiful lavender/grey colored feathers.

The other one is mostly black so far, just has some solid white feathers on his wings. I'm guessing those will molt out? Is he a black copper?

Are they still marans? Just one is a lavender maybe?

TIA!

(Edited to add they are not bantams)

Black one: male
Lavenderish one: female

They are a little young to tell breed but they both have featherd feet so they could be mixes.

To young though to tell for sure.

Thank you, and yeah the little roo is pretty obvious already :)

I think that they could be Marans because the French strain of Marans do often have feathered feet and legs, but not usually fully feathered. My Maran hen Opal has a good amount of feathers on her legs. Usually the American strain of Marans do not have feathered legs I believe. I think that the other chick is probably a lavender Maran. I think that the black cockerel is a black copper Maran because I did some research and the chicks do look similar to this. They are beautiful little birds:)
