If you have one coop that's your main flock (mostly hens with a roo or two) and another pen with just your extra roos (all hypothetical, so no numbers, but let's assume you're following the proper roo/hen density in the main flock and the roo-only flock is about half the size of the hen flock, in case that matters) do you have to keep them from ever seeing each other? Or just from being in contact? Like I'm assuming free-ranging both flocks at the same time would be a no-no 'cause the roo flock would mob the hen flock and overpower the in-flock protector roos? Or would free-ranging be fine? Assuming you'd have to keep them separate, could you free-range one the flocks every other day? Like the hen flock one day, then the roo flock? Or would it cause problems if the free-ranging hens wandered close enough to the roo-only pen to be seen, or the roo flock wandered close enough to the hen pen to see them?

Thanks to anyone who can answer

Just something I've been wondering about for a while.

Keep the roo group penned up. It doesn't matter if they can see each other, but it's more kind on the bachelor group if they don't have to see the hens. Hormones rage!
