I am setting up a bachelor pen to house up to 12 cockerels through at least the end fall where some will be carried through next spring. Some are being kept to see how there type develops. They are also to condition soil for gardening next spring. Pen is a 10 x 10 chain link dog kennel with bird netting to keep Great-horned Owls out. A perimeter hotwire will keep ground predators that might slip past dogs away. Pen is close to core of dogs activity so ground predators not likely to be an issue. Working towards having cockerels come out to free-range each day well away from penned games in poultry yard closer to barn. Biggest fun will be keeping cockerels where I want them when released to forage yet be able to get back into pen so I can close gate without policing everyone up each night.

Awesome! Great idea! I love how you said "bachelor pen" lol!!:lau

Added a Missouri Dominique cock without issues. He may even be settling discord that was occurring at low levels. He and about half of cockerels will be prepped as table-fare Sunday.
