First Chickens 2013; Currently 2 Penned Flocks; 44 hens (11 breeds); 18 9-week-old chicks (6 breeds); Free-range rooster (big, beautiful, boisterous, friendly)

Our Chickens are our pets as well as producers of eggs for sale. (Several of our hens no longer lay.)

We enjoy watching their "chickenalities" develop and we spend a great deal of time with them in the pens making sure they have activities and a healthy environment. Every new day in the henyard can bring a new learning experience.

We have ordered chicks on line, purchased chicks in person from local nurseries, fostered and raised chicks for a nursery until they were sold (after we took our pick), incubated eggs for a nursery running out of space, and hatched eggs under a broody hen.

Our best security investments:
-NiteGard flashing solar lights to deter furry predators
-Installation of monofilament line in a criss-cross pattern above our pens to keep out flying predators
-Automatic (photosensitive) coop doors from Ador to open and close with the sun
