Hello, I'm new to this online community. This is the second flock I've had, the first was devastated a year ago by most likely a fox. I got these hens at the end of February from Rural King and was fortunate that none were roos. They all lay, but I have hens that like to lay eggs in random places. I just discovered a secret spot with 22 eggs- most were bad. I'm currently sprouting barley and wheat, they seem to love it and I'm hoping to cut back on my feed costs too! I'm excited to be a part of this community to learn new things and hear others chicken stories as well.

Welcome to BYC from another Hoosier. Lots of good info and very helpful people here. Enjoy your stay.
Thank you! It's been very lonely until recently. I met another BYC keeper in my area through my church so that's helped. Other than that I have always relied on searching online, so I'm very excited about this!

Well, you already have the link for the Indiana thread which is a good resource to start with. Here is some standard info that I give to newbies here that might be helpful:

If you want to get the most out of BYC, I suggest you do the following:
  • Spend some time in the Learning Center
  • When you have specific questions, most of the time a quick search will come up with the answers.
  • If you don't find anything useful that way, post your question in an appropriate sub-forum. People here are very helpful and will answer your question even it has been asked 100 times before.

G’Day from down under Butcher 4108 :frow Welcome!

I am so very sorry to hear of your losses :(

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
