I am hatching my first batch of chicken eggs. They have been incubating for one week. Out of 6, I have 2 that are definitely alive and healthy. When I checked on them this evening, there was a very bad odor coming from the incubator so I checked the eggs to find that one of them had leaked. I removed the bad egg and discarded it but a small amount of the fluid from the bad egg leaked into the incubator. What should I do with it, leave it or clean it out? I am worried about bacteria growing if I leave it but don't want to jeopardize the 2 that I know are good. Help, Thank you.

I would wipe out the bator! It will not hurt the eggs to be out of the bator for a few minutes to do that, Better that than the eggs getting the bacteria too.

I agree - remove the egg - clean the bator quickly - then put the eggs back in. A broody hen is off the eggs for a few minutes each day. When I use the incubator, I always take the eggs out to candle them at least a couple times during the 21-day incubation period. Taking them out for a few minutes to clean the bator won't hurt them.

My broody hen will get off the nest for up to an hour on warm days. So there is no danger to the fluffy butts!!! :)
