My hen Alice was attacked today by an unknown predator. Whatever attacked her gave her a flesh wound. She now has a half dollar sized area below her butt that has no skin. It also ripped out some of the fat underneath the skin. Is she going to die? I sprayed some antibacterial spray on it. It isn't really bleeding. It doesn't seem to be hurting her too bad. Is there anything else I should do? Thanks, Ryan.

I would recommend cleaning it well with weak betadine (a turkey baster works well,) and rinsing it off, then dring with paper towel. Neosporin or other plain antibiotic ointment should be applied and watch for any signs of infection for the next few days (bad odor, redness, swelling, or pus.) Get some BluKote spray for when it starts healing to disguise the red color. Right now she should be in a cage inside the coop where the others won't peck her at the sight of red. They could kill her.

Thanks for the advise. I don't have a bird cage. She is only in with one other chicken. Should I still be worried?

Most of the time they are outside. I think I might be able to build a cage for when they are inside.
