Bad Hatch Deformity Question

So I gave the guy down the road some eggs to hatch. He had 27 of the eggs hatch and has previously hatched birds, I have also hatched eggs from these birds this year with no problems.

He says it seems like their legs were to long. they did fine and then would lay on their side and then died. He has lost the entire hatch. 1 Bird left.

Any ideas? They don't have a turner but hand turn. I really cant think of anything.

Did he keep them warm, did he give them cold water? (don't give cold water)
