I had placed an order with Welp back in February but with their excessive demand selling things out even while I was ordering and my credit card expiring before the order could be confirmed and finalized, the chicks I was expecting from the June 2nd hatch can't be sent.

While I do take issue with them not updating the online ordering system in real time as orders are placed I understand the problems created by crazy COVID demand. It's not their fault that everyone wants chicks and that breeds were selling out during the first week in February.

I must say that Martha in their Customer Service department is amazing.

She bent over backwards to get me Blue Australorps at the earliest possible date^ and was patient and considerate as I considered alternate breeds since no Delawares were going to be available at all -- a process complicated by the call dropping in mid-discussion.

I really wouldn't expect anything better from any other hatchery because I'm sure they're all experiencing the same over-demand issues (in fact I know that a breed I'd wanted from Ideal vanished between my making my shortlist one evening and placing my order the next day).

Thank you for sharing your experience.

@3KillerBs, I had the same sort of experience with The Chick Depot. I wanted 5 Blue Aussie pullets, but when I talked to her 10 days ago, she warned me that hatch rates were very low this year. Instead of 5, I got 2, and also 2 Jubilee Orpingtons.

I didn't want to wait until the next hatch; I want to do one integration. So I didn't get exactly what I wanted, but I'm happy with what I did get. I'll have a colorful flock in a few months.

We just brought them home today, and I'm a happy chick momma.

Can I ask what IDEAL breed you misses out on? They told me back inDecember they were removing a good deal of breeds and they really kept their word undortunately 😅

They had those. Tgey Robert possibly coulda been sold put until July though

I think it was -- I'd meant to get Dark Brahmas on one of my orders and didn't end up with them. Hatch date availability for different breeds was changing daily when I was trying to put together my "what to order from which hatchery" lists.

I don't think it was Production Blacks because I was going to get some white layers from Welp and I know it wasn't Delaware because I was getting Delaware from Welp -- except that I'm not because they had issues with their Delaware flock. :(

The other breeds I wanted from Ideal are now cheeping happily in my brooder. :D
