Hubby and i went and picked up 2 more additions to our feathered family, a frizzled cochin and a sultan pullet, they are about 6 wks well to get to the question the sultan pullet is bad she will try to peck you hard as she can whenever she can, how can i brk her of this habbit? it's funny she look at you like come on stick you hand in this cage i dare you...lol

Gee i know my question does sound a lil silly, but i'm tellin ya she is a lil booger u'd swear she was a lil roo with an additude, which i hope to god she's not. i just mainly wanted to know do i just pick her up and deal with the pecking and show her i'm not going to hurt her and life isn't so bad and i'm boss?

Yes, I'd do what you said about picking her up. I hope no one screams at me over this, but I would take her food away about lunchtime and let her get hungry. Then, in the evening and again first thing in the morning, I'd give her some cornbread. After doing this in the morning, I would give her her regular feed back until lunchtime. As soon as she starts really going after the cornbread, then I would begin picking her up, holding her in one hand, and offering the cornbread in your other hand. After doing this in the morning I'd give her her regular feed back. Once she sees the cornbread as a treat and begins to settle with being handled you should be able to leave her feed in there all the time. jmho.

Ok, I am passing on some advice I got here when I had a dominique bound and determined to drive me out of the coop. She would run at me whenever she saw me and peck my foot. I was told to take her by the feet/ankles and turn her upside down for a few seconds until she quit freakin out and relaxed. I did then I could turn her over and pet her for awhile. Now this had to be done on a reg. basis till she learned 1. I was the hand that fed her. 2. We have roosters in there to play alpha. 3. she got more attention when being nice. There are different methods but this one worked for me.

I usually just try to move slowly, speak softly and bring treats. She was used to everything and everybody being a certain way at home, then all of a sudden she's in a new place, with strangers and everything's different. You have the best of intentions, but she doesn't know that. I'd try to show her that you are a person to be trusted, you aren't going to hurt her and let "pantry love" win her over. "Pantry love" works for chickens, dogs and humans.
