Chirping
I have a Polish chick that hatched two days ago. It was malpositioned (feet over head) and got stuck after pipping, so I waited a while and then assisted. It was exhausted after the hatch, but is now active, eating, drinking, and otherwise normal, and plenty sassy with the rest of the brood.
It did have some dried membrane stuck to it's wing and leg when it hatched, which I was able to remove with warm water and tweezers. But it has a big bald spot on it's head - it feels like it does have a closed skull, but there are just no feathers on it. The skin isn't broken but is a little pink: so far nobody else is pecking at it, but I'm worried. Is there anything I should put on it to protect the skin and reduce redness?
I'm assuming this is just a result of the poor little thing having it's gigantic head smushed against the shell for so long, fortunately it seems otherwise healthy so I'd like to do what I can to prevent any further injury.
