2 of my hens have a bald spot on the back of their heads. Is this from the rooster? Or possibly from another hen who attacks when they’re being mated?
I first noticed my very submissive 2 year old Wyandotte had a bald spot, 2-3 weeks ago. Then today I noticed that my more very dominate 7 month old Rhode Island Blue had one. My rooster is a 7 month Orpington who may be visually impaired. He’s my first roo and seems to be fairly gentle. He did spend a month mating the hens frequently, but he’s already chilled out and I don’t see him mate them very often anymore. And his favorite girl does not seem to have a bald spot (at least not that I could see- she’s a Legbar so it’s possible I missed it under her crest
).
I have seen on occasion that 2 of my more dominate hens (this blue girl pictured here and a different 2 year old Wyandotte) sometimes attack hens being mated. Could a dominate hen cause this if not from the rooster?
