balls at feather ends...anyone know what is it and how to clear it?

One of our hens has these balls type of things at the end of her feathers. It looks like balls of dirt covered in a soft sugar style substance. We tried washing her in a bath but it didn't loosen them.

She is eating fine and free ranging as normal so she doesn't seem sickly at all.

Does anyone know the best way to get rid of them. i don't want to cut into them in case I shouldn't.

Lice eggs appear at the end of the feather shaft and have a similar appearance.

yep looks like lice.. thanks a million. I'l get some treatment for it first thing in the morning..
