This happened almost a year ago but I think it's worth noting here. We have a stand of "bamboo" (it's actually giant reed, a pest in california) up near the front of our place and a big favorite for our chickens to roost in (this was while we had them out free, running around). Well, one night I found one hen hanging by a leg, she'd gotten a foot caught between two stalks of this "bamboo" and I thought she was a goner. I freed her, got her down, put her in a box with food and water, her leg was extended and was stiff .... it took her a few days but she got better. While our chickens were running free our mortality rate was HIGH. So I don't know if she's one of the ones we have now, but at least she got a 2nd chance. I was sure she was a goner but gave her the best chance I could, and she got better, it was a good feeling.

Er, don't let your chickens roost in "bamboo" that's sagged over to horizontal.

Can you fence in the bamboo and create a support structure for it so they can still run around and not get access to it?

I'm glad your chicken is ok!

They're in a coop now, and prior to the move into a coop, they moved their roosting location to a tree.
