Hi! I need some help determining the sex of "Pearl". I got all of my chickens from local breeders, but we got pearl from the local Farm and Home Supply. Although they told me she was a hen, I'm starting to doubt it. She is now 12 weeks old, and is starting to crow, I think? Here's some photos... Hope you can help! (Also, I just trimmed her wing in this photo, so don't let the lack of larger stripes on the outer wing throw you off. ;) Unfortunately, I used to have two, but only have one of the bantam barred rocks left, so I cannot compare the two anymore!

I've had a few people come by and tell me to give it time to make sure it IS a rooster... Does anyone have a photo of a 12 week old bantam barred rock pullet/rooster to share??

There's no need to give it time, sorry.
Large red comb at only 12 weeks.
lighter barring shows two barring genes, only possible in male birds
Crowing. No female bird crows at 12 weeks. Older hens with hormonal imbalances can occasionally crow, but not at 12 weeks.

There are pics on the barred rock threads showing pullets at different ages, the fact of bantam or not won't make any difference. Pullets will have very small, fleshy pink combs and be much darker overall due to only having one barring gene.
