Bantam Black Rosecomb Pair - WV

This hen is an early 09 hatch. She has been laying consistently. She has a nice head, carries herself well and has a large, full tail. I am making room for some youngsters I have coming up so I am pairing her up with a nice, young cockerel who will compliment her well. The cockerel is late 09 hatch and will have a nice short back like her and full tail but she will help him with length. His comb is just beautiful and sits high so this will benefit the pair as her comb sits a bit too tight against her head. They are from the same line but are not close. Their fathers are brothers and mothers are unrelated.

Here's the cockerel. He is going to make a super nice roo. Please keep in mind that rosecombs take 4-EVER to grow out. Tail feathers are always the very last to come in. This guy won't be in his prime til around 9mo. His sickle feathers are still very small. I have a bit of work to do on the tails so they won't be huge but they will be nice sized and consist of very wide feathers. You can already see how wide his tail feathers are. This boy has a lovely comb and nice sized lobes for his age. I see a tiny bit of red on them but that won't affect him as a breeder at all.

He holds himself very well and is quite full of himself (a must have asset to be a quality rosecomb) He's spunky and crowds all the other cockerels and pullets. He is the man

I just adore Rosecombs! But it's so hard to find really good ones... and this pair looks like they will be gorgeous, as are all your other ones!
But I have very sad news on the Hamburgs. They are no more

A few months ago, we found them all dead in their pen. It was just awful - they weren't even eaten, just murdered!! We've been setting the live trap, and now know we have raccoons, skunks, and opossums that like to visit (let's just say, none of those varmints are coming back).
The only Hamburgs I can find from the breeder of mine (Jim Legendre), have to be shipped from several states away, and they are of course expensive!
So now I am the one who needs/wants to buy Hamburg Bantams.... and of course still Rosecombs.

Oh No!!! I haven't heard. I've seen a quality breeder on eggbid who has some nice stock.. maybe buy just a pair then mix in the eggs from someone else to start up again. Or maybe buy a pair and he could tape a carton of eggs to the inside of the box. They have a much easier ride like that... I am just so sorry. When You spend years working to improve a line, it is like everything was for nothing. What a set back

I will keep my eyes peeled for you.

I cannot believe the breeder wouldn't give you a break on YOUR birds. I'd have you a trio pronto for just shipping!

Erin, you're so sweet! I just want to be sure I didn't come across with the wrong attitude - the Hamburgs I tracked down were from the guy who mine came from, not who had birds from me. Although, I did find a local breeder who had one remaining bird from my bird's eggs... and it wasn't for sale

(But I'd want a pair or more anyway, so it's okay)
