My slice of heaven in Somerset, CA
I bought two bantam cochins because they were so freakin' cute. The ONLY think I know about cochins is that they are fluffy, have feathered legs, tend to go broody, and they're adorable. I got a black cochin (charcoal colored to my eyes) and a blue cochin (sort of soft greyish lavender), each about six weeks old.

I've got four large fowl chicks the same age, but had to put the bantams in their own brooder because the pecking order thing got slightly out of hand. No physical damage, but the bantams couldn't get to the waterer often enough.

They're supposed to be pullets

and I'm hoping everybody will get along (four LF chicks and the 2 bantams) once they all have a real coop and enclosed pen for plenty of space to grow up. After that, when they grow up enough to be integrated into the Grown Up Chickens flock - but no idea when I should but growing chicks in with adult chickens.

What can folks tell me about cochins, and bantams? Please?

Stick another waterer in the brooder. The earlier the two flocks are togther, the better it'll go.

My banty girls are very bossy, and are outnumbered by the Polish but are the top in the pecking order.

Watch out for toe problems- all but one of my girls have funny feet, either a crooked toe or a upside-down toenail or weird toenails. They are INCREDIBLY sweet, I don't think any of my girls has ever nipped me hard (it wasn't Rainy's fault that one time- she really thought my toe was a worm). Roos are little devils (mine were, anyway). Won't tolerate another roo around and fight like crazy.

Good luck with your sweet girls!!

Wish I had Cochin chicks running around again.

I'll probably post again when I find all my helpful Cochin sites. OH: thecochincoop.com is good.
