So a few months ago I got my first silkie Rooster. Very sweet little thing. Was terrified of my hens and acted antisocial to the girls.

The flock I added him to...they don't have any bullies in that flock, they all get along well and most are just retired pets that lay a few eggs. Very sweet, laid back, and didn't bother him.

I have never seen him interact, flirt, or breed any of my hens. Usually when I add a new Rooster they flirt nonstop. But he didn't show interest at all.

I added two Black Austastralorp Hens, and one little game hen. Those three girls are all used to each other. Added them in, no problems, all the girls get along with no fighting. Like they have always been together.

This was about a week ago when I added them. Now I am noticing my game hen hides in the nest box from the silkie Rooster all the time. Every game hen I ever had, has been mean and bossy.

But when she gets down, the silkie jumps on her. She won't let him breed her for some reason. And that's all he is trying to do, and he just chases her until she jumps up and hides again.

This is the first time I have noticed him show any interest in breeding, so maybe he is just being sneaky about it. But I have never had a hen turn down a rooster before.

All I have left to do now is put her with my pullets. She's sweet so I am sure they will be fine together.

But I really wanted some hatching eggs off my silkie and game hen before I separate them. I want to have some broodie hens hatched off for next year, and I think that will be the best pair from the hens I own now.

Any ideas? Just separate them to separate flocks and not worry about it? Leave them alone to let them work it out? Try a different Rooster with her?

I'm collecting some eggs now to do a fertility check, just to see who he has been breeding to.
