My Seramas choose to lay in the communal nest box. They refuse to go into any of the smaller ones.

You can make them 8" x11". Approximately the same size as a sheet of paper. That is large enough, but yet small enough to give them privacy. Just don't be surprised if they choose a different location. Making a nest box double the size of your others encourages some birds to lay there instead of in the yard or a field. At least that's been our experience.
