Hi
Although I purchased several bantam chicks this spring and some others to total 8 chicks altogether, added to the 4 chickens and one guinea I already had, through some chicken disasters only one bantam (and one female regular chicken who has one leg) remain. I bought 5 adult hens (regular sized). I didn't know if the bantam was a rooster or a hen until a couple of weeks ago. Well, he's definitely a rooster now, and a nice one so far. However, he seems to be having some difficulty performing his "duties." He can get the smaller hens to cooperate with him, but his aim is more for the armpit than where it should be. I don't necessarily want babies, and I suppose there's nothing to be done about it regardless. Is there anything to do besides laugh? Poor boy. Is it possible for him to fertilize the hens, assuming his aim improves? I had a regular sized rooster but something killed him, so I know what it's supposed to look like. Poor thing, he tries so hard to show the girls tasty food and such, but they pretty much ignore him. They were relieved when the other rooster was gone, for sure. This one is easier to ignore since he's half their size.
