I have 6 hens, 2 black australorps, 2 dark brahmas and 2 production reds (All standards/large fowl). If I was to add a bantam Golden Sebright Rooster to my flock, would the chicks be bantams, or standards?

Hi, I've been looking at a similar situation, and from what I can tell, you would get about 25% bantam-ish, 50% halfway, and 25% almost standard. So my conclusion would be that they are all somewhere in the middle, and some will be closer to one or the other. I know it's not much help, but I haven't seen any actual statistics, and I haven't done it (yet) myself. I can let you know in September, though ;). I will be putting a bantam Cochin over standard columbian rocks, and hoping for fertility.

The only worry I would have with the seabright is that you have rather large standards with a sort of small bantam, umm, fertility may not be as guaranteed as 2 chickens closer in size.

I have been wondering this same thing. I have 4 Bantam roosters, 2 Bantam hens, & 16 "regular" size hens. Not really sure how this is going to work out......

Thank you everyone. My sebright is almost 11 weeks old, and he started crowing this morning. If we decided to keep him, he wouldn't be with the girls until about 5 more weeks.

I did t know bantam roosters could get up to standard hens to mate....
I am trying to decide what rooster/roosters to keep and i have both standard and bantams. Is there pros to bantam roosters over standard?

For my family, we have had 2 roosters that went after people. My children are so afraid of Roos now, I thought getting a smaller one would help let them overcome some issues. My personal goal is to have a smallish (3-4 pound) chicken that lays well and is docile, hence the mixing of bantam and standard. I'm sure everyone who tries has a different reason.
