First time chicken mom. Can a solitary bantam (barred Cochin we think)rooster live in harmony with a flock of same age full sized hens? Our nine chicks are about 7-8 weeks. They have a 7x7 coop and 20x20 run, so don’t think they’ll be overcrowded. One of the chicks does appear to be a cockerel. He’s the ONLY bantam of the bunch. I had no plans on keeping a rooster, but figure I’ll give him a chance and see how it turns out. If he becomes a prolific crower. he will likely need to be rehomed out of consideration to neighbors. The neighbors are all excited and supportive in regards to the chickens/free eggs, but didn’t want to push my luck in the noise department. Crowing aside, wondering how this could play out with him being so much smaller than his lady friends..... For now they all get along fine. There is one other pullet that is a golden laced Polish that could turn out to be a rooster, but hoping not. Will DEFINITELY not keep two roosters.

Looks like a Cuckoo Marans cockerel. Not a Cochin.

Bantam roosters do great with LF hens. Here is one I re-homed. These are his new ladies. Before his new home, he was in with guinea hens.
