Bantams, hens or roosters?

:rolleyes:If they are roosters,then I have to many.6 to 1 hen.
I have got to ask what you guys are looking at that gives away the sex of the bird.
thanks
Luke

Long thin pointy saddle feathers right there above the tail and same with the hackles that lay over the shoulders. Girls have wider blunt ended feathers. Plus with some species of the males the tail feathers will have very pretty long shiny blue black or green black tail feathers.

If you bought them from a stranger, he was more than likely taking advantage of you not being experienced with sexing chickens. I would recommend studying the sexes really closely of the different breeds on this site http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/BRKPoultryPage.html#Chickens
especially
the most common breeds you see wherever it is you go to find your birds. A guy at a local swap here tried to take advantage of my 11yo son once by selling him a male Delaware(I think it was) and passing it off as a female...I went to see what he bought before the guy took it out and I sat and argued with the guy that he was selling my son a roo. The guy knew what he was doing as he had tons of chickens for sale, you can't have that many at the age they were and not know the male from the female... In other words he had been breeding long enough to know the difference. Anyway, he gave son his money back since all his birds were male.

Thanks for the info.
I will just have to study a little more and learn what Iam looking at.
Thanks
Luke
