Bantams that lay well?

Don't forget Polish. Someone gave me 2 hens and one just started to lay cute little white eggs. A little flighty, but comical and it's fun to watch their hair-do's bounce around. I have read they aren't so prone to broodiness

Most any bantam lays well, what you need to watch is the breeds that tend to be extra broody cause a broody hen just aint gone lay for you. This is true with silkies, cochins and such. They lay great when not brooding, but they are terribly unpredictable as to just how long they will lay.
I have seramas, d'anvers,d'uccles polish, houdans, crevecoeurs, silkies, sultans, o.e.'s, sumatras, phoenix, etc all in bantam, and the worst producer's are the silkies, all the others are pretty much and egg a day when in season. As for paying for themselves, yep bantams are the way to go, the eat 1/2 or less of large fowl, and their eggs sell many times higher for hatching. You're looking in the right direction if you want self sufficient birds, go bantam all the way!! The rarer the better too......
