Can you get eggs to hatch when it is a mix between standard hen and bantie roo? Is there any reason they shouldn't hatch? When I use the eggs for eating I see a bullseye and yet all of the eggs I set (4 of them) never developd, but other bantie eggs did fine. Was this just a fluke or is there something I don't know?

Does anybody know if I can have a bantam roo and get fertile eggs from a standard size barred rock? Her eggs have the bullseye, and yet of the 5 that have been incubated none of them have started to develop. I am just trying to figure out why. The bantie eggs have done great.

I think that mix should be able to take place, especially if you're seeing the bullseye. As for why they're not developing...maybe you got a non-fertile batch in the incubator, or one of them has problems with actual fertility of the eggs. It could have just been the wrong conditions for the eggs to develop. It's hard to say what the exact issue is, but I would try another batch of eggs in a few weeks to see if it's a recurring problem, and whether it's specific to your barred rock or not. Sorry I can't help more!

Oh, and I just noticed you said she's a pullet. Sometimes it takes a while for pullet's eggs to be fertile. She may need more time to mature before her eggs become fertile, even with the rooster mating with her.

If you are truly seeing a "bullseye", they should develop.

She is about 7 months old and had been laying everyday for about 2 months. I am almost certain that I see the bullseye. It is pretty obvious when you know what to look for. I just took another of her undeveloped eggs out from under my broody hen, so that makes 4 in a 'bator and 1 from a broody. I have another broody (gotta love these gals) and I just gave her 2 of this hens eggs, along with 3 bantie eggs. I will probably candle them in a week or so and see what I see. For some reason I just want one of her chicks, probably because she is my only standard hen and a sweetheart and a character. She rides around on my goats and sleeps with them at night. Wants nothing to do with the coop at night, but she loves her goats.

At least I know that it "should" work. Thank you, I will keep trying. Maybe she is just too young.

they are fertilized. Now.... STOP eating em and hatch sum chikies ps { Who's the dad, what breed is he ?}.
Ps. a crosse aitherway can work one a rooster is fertie the eggs will develope.
Even the smallest roo with the biggest hen will do ( i'd like to try Serama x Jersey giant )

I have the most giantist (if that is a word) rooster and the smallest hen.. It is funny to watch my rooster flop on the ground only to have the hen pop out from under him.... At first I thought he was injured!!!! The little hen completely dissappears... I have hatched lots of babies from them... you end up with a mid sized model... Have fun with it!!
