It's me again!

Our hen house will be shingled this week...so nearing completion!! Chicks to arrive in April...

Floor space is 71 sq ft. I am thinking of 9 standard hens and 3 bantys--all hens. Will this be ok since they will be raised together?? Big outdoor run as well.

Here's the list:

Standards:
Welsummer (2), Wyandottes (2), Buckeyes (2), Barred Rock (1) Ameracauna (1), White Cochin (1)

Bantys:
Barred Rock (1)
White Wyandotte (1)
Ameracauna (1)

Any problems with this list???
We want friendly and pretty chickens!!

They will all be hand raised together. Plan to buy from My Pet Chicken.

Looking forward to your always informative replies!!

Is is OK to put additional roosts under the windows just for fun? (Sun bathing in the winter??)

Can the bantys roost at the same height or should I make a sep. roost for them?? I am assuming they need a smaller roost...

Just make everything set up for standard sized birds and the banties will jump right up to them. None of the banties on your list strike me as mini miniatures such as seramas, so they should be fine.

A roost in front of windows would be fine. I hear some birds really like the window seat!

My banty's roost right up with the big girls - My roost is only about 4 feet off the ground.
They're so tiny they disapear among all the big fluffy girls - I bet its cozy!

Edit to add - I have one funny banty who doesn't like to roost with the rest - she flies up to a shelf WAY above my head height - I'm guessing its around 7ft off the ground, and she makes it up there every night.....

Roost levels for both sizes should be fine. Banties can jump pretty high!

Putting roosts by the window is ok. It's better to provide the windows with removable covers because sometimes the wind can be too strong and your chickens will get blown away!

Your chicken list is A-ok; all friendly and sweet chickens.

Good luck!

Thanks for your responses!

Two of the windows are double hung and can be closed. One is not operable, just for sunlight. I'll be careful that they are not open in a stong wind...!!

I think I'll order today!!!!!
