Barfing Chicken!

My two year old white leg horn Pearl has been droopy for the last few days. Her back side is a bit bare and her breast looks really extended. Her huge red comb is hanging and when I picked her up liquid came out of her beak. She is a mess. I have checked for lice or any indication of something wrong. Found nothing amis. The other 10 hens are fine. She is drinking water and eating a bit. Any ideas? Thank you , because it seems she is going down fast.

Thank you, I will, she is definatly wanting to drink and she is jiggly in the breast area, every time she puts her beak down about a tablespoon of liquid comes out, she is up and walking around with the rest, looks like she wants to eat, but cant because of whats comming up...........?

My barred Rock Roo was eating after i fed him today and I noticed slober come out of hes beak as he bent down to eat is that a sign of a impacted crop? If so how do you fix the impacted crop or could it be anything else ? Sorry for Hijaking your thread.

It seems from the thread I followed it is more likely sour crop, because she is jiggly not compacted. I isolated her and have apple cider vinegar in the water, tomorrow comes the yogurt, then olive oil and bread...........we shall see..........thanks for the suggestions!

Ok, I'm a newbie, what is this with apple cider vinegar in the water? Is this something I should be doing? If so, how much to a gallon of water? My girls are 16 weeks old.

Don't turn her upside down, but tilt her downward, massage the crop and try to expel as much of the liquid as you can.

Another thing that should help her and the rest of the flock is to give them 1/4 tsp of copper sulfate per gallon of water for 3-4 days. (Make fresh each day.)

If the crop won't clean out you may need to take her to a vet and have her tubed. This involves putting a tube into her crop, pouring liquid in and flushing out whatever is in there.

I have had to do this several times. The last time, the vet flushed out a couple of clumps of grass that were evidently causing the liquid to back up and sour.

Thanks so much.........where do I get copper sulphite.......healthfood store, nursery or hardware? Do you know if it will be ok for goats, they all live together. I do have Pearl seperated with bunnies, but the rest of the flock can wait if it is harmful to other animals I can keep the bunnies away.

I had to order my copper sulfate on-line, but some feed stores may have it. Not sure about the goats and bunnies...

Call around town to see if anyone has it. You might find it at a health food store...
