My Grandmother had a bright idea yesterday to cut down on the smell around my chicken run (with all the wet weather we are having) to buy a 50 lb bag of this Barn Lime and just throw it all over the ground in with the chickens in there.....of course they was all over it. Is this going to kill all my chickens ??????? What will happen to them, is there anything I should be looking for ????

I use it all the time,it dries up the wetness and the poop.
Edited to say, ask your grandma if she used it in the 'Good ol days" when they raised chickens, bet she says yes

so you have had no ill affects by just throwing it all over the pen ?? And yes, that was her response, "I have used it all my life" ...

Barn lime won't hurt them. It's the hydrated lime you have to be careful of. That stuff will give them chemical burns anywhere it touches bare skin.

I usually put it down on the floor, then fresh wood chips on top of it. Works great.
