Barnaby the Tur-dog-Ken (turkey/dog/chicken)

Meet Barnaby. The turkey that was purchased along with another turkey, Bertha, as “mystery chickens” last year. Now every time someone or something comes into our yard, Barnaby barks… like a dog. Yes, he has learned to mimic the dogs and he actually barks. It is a very obvious bark and sometimes a little growl. It is very different from the normal turkey sounds. When not acting as a watch dog, he has a group of chickens he is very rarely separated from and will even groom them when they are all dust bathing. When they go into their coop at night, Barnaby and Bertha follow along. He will also hop into your lap for a nap, if the mood strikes, or try to follow you inside if he thinks you are not coming back… Bertha does this as well. There are other turkeys and even Guinea fowl they could roam with, but they refuse. Barnaby is species confused and is so extremely friendly and nosey that he and Bertha have earned the status as a pet. Lol
