If you knew which parent was barred, that could tell if you have a male. If there are only barred hens, not roosters, your black chick with a white head spot is a sex link male. If the neighbors have barred roosters, all bets are off as to gender.

OOOOH I don't know which parent was barred though I do see the resemblance. So we watch sable.

Anyone who thinks that roosters only crow at dawn have never had roosters (at least not for any length of time). ) Roosters will crow at any time of the day or night. Some of the loudest roosters I've had over the years did most of their crowing between 2 and 4 am. (

Oh I didn't mean that as a complaint just a curiosity. It is heard if I'm awake but it would not wake me up. I don't have Naighbors close so there free to make the noise. It's fun still not convinced that I'll keep both. But no real problems have shown up.
