It has to do with how well-defined the white spot on the head is. It's certainly not an exact science of course.
- Agreed. But my Barred Rocks are about 3 weeks old and they are females! Maybe the white spots mean they are females because mine had them too!!!
thanks...its not as easy as I thought it would be, am inclined to agree with you, as their legs seem to have the beginnings of pigmentYou’ll have to wait until they’re 5 weeks old at least, but the older the better.
As chicks it’s a lot harder to sex by just looking at them, experts check their vents and even that is like 80-90% accurate.
Thanks, it never is lolIt has to do with how well-defined the white spot on the head is. It's certainly not an exact science of course.
I read your piece 2 days ago, but seems my chicks aren't playing ball, their legs seem like they have pigment coming through, one thing we can be certain of is the boy in the top left cornerLooks like 2 baby girls and a boy. The northwest photo is the boy with the diffuse head spot. The girls have a "neater" and smaller head spot. No vent sexing necessary with Barred Rocks.
Of course, keep an eye on their comb and the size of their legs to confirm as they get older.
