We had a bobcat break into our coop on Sunday. Lost one & have another pretty injured. I've been giving her 50/50 water & pedialyte through a syringe. She finally started purking up last night. She is trying to drink on her own now but still wont eat anything. She has very poor head control right now. Im not sure if its because of the eye injury or she has something else neurological going on.

Most her of wound are located on her head and neck. They have been washed the best I can and I've been using an antibiotic ointment. I'm in need of some advice about her comb and potentially her other injuries.

Her comb is severely mangled, the back half of it is black. I want to cut off the dead part of her comb so it isn't a breeding ground for infection. Is it possible? Also, she had some damage around her right eye and I'm not sure how functioning it is. Can a chicken function with just one eye? The picture is hard to see her eye damage because her damaged comb is in the way. I can say Ive still seen her second eyelid moving. She also has a couple puncture marks on the back of her head. I'll post some pictures of all her injuries. I might have to add one of her eye tomorrow.
Thanks in advance! 15059575124041831178000.jpg back of head 1505957617945678366035.jpg back of neck, 2 punctures. 1505957757433-192049384.jpg Mangled & black comb.

Poor girl! The black on the comb may be dead tissue, and may drop off eventually. Keep up the Neosporin ointment, and clean away any pus drainage first. The eye hopefully will go down, but if you see any pus or crusty drainage, I would clean it with saline and apply some Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn eye gel from a feed store. Tube or crop feeding can be a way of giving ground chicken feed with a lot of water or baby bird food. Casportpony has a good thread about learning this, called "Go team tube feeding," if you want to learn how. Liquids are most important. Sometimes you can tempt them with chopped egg, tuna, liver, or wet feed with a lot of water

Usually all i ever use is Neosporin and vetx mixed in a spray bottle heres my boy before and after. I separated him for 2wks and re applied twice a day mad sure he was getting water and food and all was well. The black will usually fall off its dead tissue. The after photo was during this years molt months after he got damaged.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. She isnt as perky today as she was yesterday. I've gotten her to eat a mixture of baby food and her pellets. It wasn't a lot but it was a start. Today her comb, where it is black, started to shrivel up. So hopefully it falls off on its own. Thanks again!

Keep offering liquids. Poultry NutriDrench or Poultry Cell 2-3 ml per day given orally can be a boost. You can also mix a lot of water in a small amount of chicken feed, egg, and a little dab of plain yogurt which would be good.
