barred rock hen or rooster? saddle and profile pictures included

This is Spooky one of my 7 month old Barred Rock hens. You tell me that their combs are the same size. Nope. Your rooster has a much bigger comb and my hen is older!!!! I still say roo.

They aren't from the same blood line, so they will not necessarily mature at the same rate.

It's a pullet Maxx.

She lacks the pointed saddle feathers, hackle feathers, sickle growth and isn't crowing and also lacks the double-barring of the male.


SOOO...she's a pullet. Eggs should be coming very soon!

I have 4 Barred Rocks myself and except for your combs being larger they look identical to mine. They are beautiful birds and so sweet.

I am so glad I stumbled across this thread cuz I was really starting to wonder about my BRs...they are about 19 weeks, I think and although they aren't laying eggs yet their combs and wattles are developing nicely and it was beginning to make me wonder...no crowing though so I was getting really concerned/confused
