Hi! I’m new here, but been a poultry mom for over 35 years. We recently hatched eggs ourselves when schools closed due to Coronavirus, I took school incubators home and 12 healthy cuties hatched, we adopted 4 ‘unknowns’. They’re all mixed so we’re worried our barred rock might be a roo?! Any advice is helpful, as my youngest daughter loves this cutie, it has dark colors and no wattles at 7 1/2 wks, but a pinkish comb starting. It’s flock mates included (all mixed): black sex link, Golden comet, black copper maran, and EE. It’s very frustrating unknown breeds/gender....but they’re all beautiful and sweet natured! I’m glad we saved them but I already have an adult white crested red Polish rooster so we can’t keep another roo. Thanks!!

At seven and a half weeks a cockerel would have very defined wattles. I have a barred rock cockerel and he has huge wattles. So, I think it is a pullet.

Mostly looks pullet to me as well, although the amount of white makes me a little hesitant. Everything else says pullet, so probably pullet.

Thanks...im also concerned about mostly white barred chest too but oddly the body is very dark...dark beak and wash on legs too, but since it’s a mixed breed..it’s guessing game. It acts female.

I'm going to guess female. My 6 week old females are starting to get their combs in but they're nowhere near the size or brightness of the boys.
Thanks for your guess! :) That’s all we can do! I don’t want to give my daughter false hope if we need to re-home this one. :( But...it’s SO smart and sweet! It has a dark beak and leg wash too, kinda big tail.

Aww it does sound like there's barred rock in there. Just give me a min I'll go get a pic of my BR mix boy so you can compare.
