This is my BYC post! I've been reading threads since we started our flock earlier this year and just got around to joining! We just added this hen to our little flock and the man that we got her from was unsure if she's a barred rock or a Dominique (or Dominicker as we say in Tennessee). My best assessment is that she's Dominique. Am I right? Also, is there an age estimate?

I would expect her to be more plump to be one of those breeds, but she could be a hatchery grade example of either. Usually Marans have feathered legs, but not always. And usually barred Rock have yellow legs, but that too could vary. As Marans are less common, she's probably a hatchery Rock or a cross. Very pretty though and will likely be a good layer, and that is what's most important. Unless you plan on a breeding program.
