We have a back yard small flock of 5 chickens (3 ISA Brown, 1 Easter Egger & 1 Bantam). We got all of them last year at this time.

We have room for about 2 or 3 more chickens but can't decide what to get. My wife like the look of the Barred Rock and I like the Laced Wayndotte.

We get about 3 eggs per day now, which already is more than we need. But if we get some more chicks it only seems to make sense to get ones that will lay as well. We can give them to the neighbors/friends/etc.

The main thing is what breeds will stay about the side of our 3 ISA Browns and won't bully (or be bullied) the existing 5?

What are your suggestions for one of these breeds and experiences in adding more chickens to a small flock?

I'm also wondering if we should just get one of each?????

Thank you a lot for your help!!!

One of each might be good because it might tend to "shake things up" a little more than two that are the same. chickens are individuals enough that you really wont' know til the time comes. Even the size may depend more on thee indifiduals than the breed, especiall with hatchery breeds. I think I'd probably just get what I want, do the introducing when they are all about the same size, and hope for the best. Here's a good thread about integrating.

Went to the feed store today and just had to get some chicks. They won't have the Wyandotts till next week, so we got a Barred Rock and White Legghorn. :)
