Barred Rock question....

I know about sexing a barred rock chick by leg color and the spot on their head, but I seem to remember someone also saying that the females get their tail feathers sooner than the males.....is this right?

Yes, that's almost always the case. Before a week old, most BR pullets are already growing a perky little tail.
