Well, looks like 1 of my 4 Barred Rock babies is in fact a rooster.
Since I have been blessed with 2 of the most well behaved Americauna roosters I am curious to know what other people have experienced with their Barred Rock roosters. Are they typically a more aggressive breed as far as the roosters go? My BR hens are as good as it gets but I have no clue as far as the roosters go. I have read that the Americauna Roosters are generally pretty mellow.
Let me know about your experiences with BR Roosters!
Should I prepare myself for my little guy? Lol

I've had 2 hatchery barred rocks. Neither was aggressive. Some say they are more aggressive, but that hasn't been my experiences. I take a hands off approach to raising my young roosters.

Thank you for your reply!
I have heard a lot about the hands off approach. I like it! It makes sense. I got my Americauna roosters from 2 different people when they were about a year old so I don’t know if they were held and carried around or raised the hands off way and they are very friendly and good to my hens. They will even jump in my lap if I’m sitting in a chair Lol This BR Cockerel will be the first one that I will be raising.

Might have to wait and see. I’ve been told not to judge a roo’s temperament until after puberty, so I’m waiting to see how mine turn out.

It just depends. Some breeds and families produce more human aggressive cock birds than others, because this is a genetic trait, but his family lines are unknown, so just wait and see. Can your flock manage a third rooster? Will he fit into your plans? If not, move him on instead anyway. Or, freezer camp if he decides to be rude.
