Hi y'all. My little Barred Rock was sitting a lot yesterday. I noticed that when she did stand and walk she had to use her wing to help herself up and then limped / tried not to use her right leg. I picked her up and took a good look at her. She didn't seem to have any damage or injury that I could see. I moved the leg in range of motion and it didn't feel broken or damaged. Any ideas or suggestions? I lost my other Barred Rock last week. Was fine when she went to bed and died in her sleep. :( Don't want to lose another but can't imagine what could be wrong.

How old is the chicken? Sorry that you lost another chicken last week. Did she have any symptoms of limping or imbalance? Are rhe chicken’s toes curled under? Were they vaccinated for Mareks disease? What are you feeding them? Do you have any chick vitamins with riboflavin that you can give? Vitamin B complex tablets can be crushed and put into food or water 1/4 tablet daily per chicken. You can find them at most pharmacies and grocery stores.

Thanks a bunch. The Barred's are 3 years old this spring. No other symptoms at all for the one who passed last week. She was fine and then dead overnight. I'll check this one and see how her toes look. I bought them at a reputable feed store in town. I know they give vac's but not sure about that one. Is that a pretty standard one for chicks? I feed them good Texas Naturals Food Layer Formula...and feed them fresh veggie scraps too. I have in my pantry right now some liquid b12. Should I try to give her some of that?

I found some b12 liquid with folic acid in my cabinet plus a supplement called b replete by nu Medica that has Bvitamins and riboflavin. Should I try to give her either of those? Toes not curled under. How do you treat for Merck's?
