1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Barred Plymouth Rock, 7 months, healthy weight, laying pullet
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Mushy crop, fluffed up, droopy eyelids, water poured from her mouth with I picked her up, and she pooped water, or clear liquid as well
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Nothing
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Definitely drinking. Seems to be interested in eating. Layer pellets, game bird starter, grit, oyster shells
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Clear and watery
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Pulled her inside for the night with just water, to see if her crop goes down tomorrow.
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Observing her for the night
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use
"Free Ranges" in my 1600 sq. ft. yard with 11 others. Pine shavings, peat moss, alfalfa hay and straw are all in the run. Pine mulch and soil in the garden.

My dog actually pointed her out to me. She just looks droopier than the others, and wasn't running from the dog as usual. He was sniffing her all over very carefully. Her vent was moist, and as I said above, she pooped "water" on me while I was checking her out. She laid for sure on Thursday, since I got 9 eggs from 9 layers.

I'm thinking impacted crop, but there is no smell, and I feel no hard mass. She's at least passing water. Maybe she ate something toxic?

Any hints would be helpful. I'm not worried yet, just baffled. Should I remove her water over night as well, or let her keep that? Should I try to get some yogurt in her, or wait for morning?

The crop can stop functioning properly without actually being "impacted" - it can be just "sour". The crop and the rest of the gut work together - the gut sends a signal to the crop so the crop will send some food down to it. If the gut is sick (coccidiosis, intestinal infection, etc.) then it may not signal the crop and the stuff just sits there. If the crop is sick (sour or impacted) it will not empty properly, either. And one can cause the other - if the gut is not working, and it doesn't signal the crop to empty, the crop could BECOME sour!

She may have just gotten into something "bad", either rotten or moldy. I would add some apple cider vinegar to her water, and give her a couple of ml directly down her beak. That can help stave off a fungal infection of the crop if that is starting. As long as her crop is going down overnight, she could also have some yogurt to increase her beneficial bacteria. I would not give yogurt if the crop is "stalled" as you can easily start making cheese in there...

Thanks for your help.

As lethargic as she was last night, she was spunky as can be today. Crop was empty, solid poo in the bedding. I have to assume she just ate something that didn't agree with her, and was trying to flush it out with a bunch of water.

I put her outside and she ran for the nest box.

Everyone got a big serving of yogurt this morning, and I'll pick up more ACV today. One of them knocked my bottle over earlier this week and broke it.

I'll keep an eye on her, and report back if she lapses again.

Thanks again.
