I read on some thread here somewhere yesterday that if you cross an EE roo with a barred rock hen you will get an "easy to sex" chick from the cross...that the females will have a definitive spot on their head. I also read differing opinions on whether or not it is immediately noticeable or only after a couple of weeks. Would anyone care to comment on that? Also..what if the breeding pair was reversed...barred rock roo and EE hen?
 
You actually don't need to cross with anything to get easy sexing for Barred Rocks. Females have a smaller, more defined head spot. Males have larger, more splotchy looking head spots. You'll also notice girls are darker colored, and usually have a dark wash down the front of their legs.

No, if the male is the BR, ALL chicks will be barred and all will have a head spot. I've had quite a few of those out of BR over BBS Ameraucana. If the hen is the BR and the male the EE or Ameraucana, the males will be barred.
