Barred Sex Link Gene Question

(Probably a dumb) question I cant find a direct answer for.... Can you mate any solid colored (non Barred) Rooster with a Barred hen and get a sex linked chick? Or does it have to be a RIR or New Hampshire?

Also will the chicks still follow the same color scheme at birth? (Female all black, male black w/white spot).

You do not have to use a specific cross, it's only the barred gene that is sexlinked.
So you can cross any non-barred rooster with a barred hen to get sexlinked chicks.
All males will hatch with a white spot on their head, and females without, but other than that the chicks could be any color. It's probably best to breed dark-colored chickens, though, because with light colors it might be harder to tell if there's a spot or not

We produced Black Sex-Link chicks last fall with a Black Jersey Giant cock x Delaware hen cross.
