Basic chicken behavior question

When ever I go out handing out treats to the girls between bites they rub the sides of their heads on the ground. Just wondering why?

Mine do that too, I think they are just cleaning their beaks off.

I find that it's just like wiping your mouth on your sleeve....they probably have something on there that they don't want there

Mine "wipe" their mouth when I give them yogurt. Of course the stuff is everywhere, OMG don't let it stay on the beak!!

I bet if they had arms they would not do that, they would do like children and wipe their mouths on the sleeves or on the bare arm. lol

Indeed! My son is hopeless when it comes to napkins...Why use one when your sleeve is so much easier?

Yup, beak wiping! My dog does it too. . . wipes his muzzle all over the furniture! Thank goodness for washable slipcovers!
