I have been thinking of planting a small organic garden, but almost all of our land is wooded, so I don't know if it would get enough sun. so I have been considering other options for gardening, which brings me to my question.

so i heard recently that some people who don't have the land for a proper garden have been using odd containers for their gardens. like bathtubs. and so I wanted to know, if you had to find a container to put a garden in, what would you use? where would you get it? what would you plant in it? where would you put it?

I have room and we have a large garden but.....I am using all i have this year so.....I have a kiddie pool that I used for our ducks but since they are gone, it will be a small garden, I am also using a bathtub, a washtub, a smaller wash tub, and all flawer containers that I can use.

Just thought this info may help

I have seen a lot of people lately giving away free bathtubs on craigslist. I would just make sure you have proper drainage. The fun thing with a container is you can cover it and make a "hop house" and start thing early and grow later.

You'd be surprised how many plants will tolerate the shade. Like all kinds of peas and beans will, lettuce will, I think even zucchini. If you have a nice nursrey around you could call them and ask. I know mine had a newsletter with a story on it, but I can't find it with an email search. Go for it!

Oh, yes.....proper drainage is a must!! What I did in the bathtub is I found a rock that covered, but didn't close up the hole so the dirt would clog it up during a hard rain or something. I did the same thing with the pool. Also I have the tub in a shaded area so when the sun is at its hottest point it will be shaded and won't heat up the plant so much that it kills them.
