We have lots of chickens as some of you may know, one of them is Baz and he is a buff Orpington rooster, he’s around 2 years old but acts like he’s 80
A vast majority of the time he is sitting down in the shade somewhere and or eating food. And as a consequence of that he has gotten… very very round
And because of that I have made the decision to put him on a fitness plan!
He absolutely loves the mealworms we give them as treats so I will put him at one end of the veranda and then put down a few treats at the other end so he has to walk to the other end! And then I repeat it for awhile and I do it daily so he hopefully will lose some weight at last! 😅
Any other weight loss ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Oh my…just wow.

I know nothing about rooster fitness and I know fat shaming is bad. But here goes:

I suggest that the mealworms be served on the other end of the run like you mentioned. BUT maybe place them on a gilded plate served by his favorite hen in a gold bikini.

I am attaching a reference picture from a similar case from the 1970’s. Unfortunately, the hen was abducted by her twin brother before the large rooster could achieve any significant weight loss. And the hen then strangled the rooster to death. But maybe things will work out better for Baz.

Haha! I will keep that in mind for in the future if he loses motivation!

Are you sure that he's not broody?:oops:

Fake worm and fishing pole.
My son used to do this to my chickens. 🙄

When he gets there give home one meal worm. Then cast again.
