This may be the stupidest question every asked, so I hope someone patient is a member here. Here goes ...

What does BBred mean in terms of colour? I have seen it written in a number of different ways and I don't know if there is a difference. For example, I've seen BB Red, BBred, BBRed, B B red, Bbred and so on. Are there differences here, or does it all mean the same thing?

Does it mean Brown/Red? Is that referring to the wild type colour pattern?

Thanks for any help.

No, it's all the same, it means Black Breasted Red, like a BB Red Game bantam.

Edit: Chris posted as I was typing. And he is completly right about the stupid question part too.

And no, it is not brown red.

Brown red is a crowwing pattern. BBR is a duckwing pattern. The difference in these is that in duckwing patterns males have a wing triangle that is a different colour than the main portion of the wing; crowwings do not. Go to http://www.bantychicken.com/cgi-bin/OEGBCA/mods/usergallery/index.cgi and look at the photos of black breasted reds then look at those of brown reds.

BBR is e+ allele (wildtype); brown red is E^R allele (birchen)
